Nahid also said, "We will soon announce a united front
of the student-civil uprising of citizens at all levels, student organisations
and all professionals from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. We will
present the national contours of future Bangladesh through our discussions with
you all," Nahid said, calling on people to join the spontaneous student
and citizen uprising that has begun and organise from neighbourhood to
neighbourhood, neighbourhood to neighbourhood. He also announced a
comprehensive non-cooperation campaign starting on Sunday.
After Nahid's speech, another coordinator, Asif Mahmud, gave
urgent instructions regarding the complete non-cooperation programme. He said
the non-cooperation programme will include hospitals, drug stores, emergency
transport services (transportation of medicines and medical equipment),
ambulance services, fire stations, mass media, transport of daily necessities,
emergency internet services, and emergency relief and transport services.
Officials and employees active in the field will be present.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Secretary General of Bangladesh
Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA), told Prothom Alo that this
single-phase program was born out of huge anger from students. People were shot
in the chest. All residents joined the students in the protest. The end of such
a government will be decided by riots.
The demonstrators remained at Shaheed Minar for an hour even
after announcing the program with point demands. At this point, three effigies
of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were burned on the road in front of Shaheed
Minar. Everyone started shouting slogans of oppression. The demonstrators
started leaving from Shaheed Minar from 6.30 am. A section of the agitators
marched from there and blocked Shahbagh intersection in the evening.
Another group held a protest at the foot of Raju sculpture
at TSC, University of Dhaka. Apart from this, another part began a procession
from Shaheed Minar to Shahbag area till 7.30 pm in the evening.

Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mochad, a private student, was shot dead
on July 18 while delivering water to protesters. Many students mourned him
yesterday, distributing free water to everyone saying, "We need water, we
need water," and some even donated guavas to protesters at their own
expense.
Khurshida Shirin took her husband, two daughters
and four nieces to the Shaheed Minar movement in the centre. He is from
Aftabnagar in the capital. They had flags on their heads and slogans on their
faces. Khurshida Shirin told Prothom Alo at the Shaheed Minar premises:
"We are fighting for our rights.
Rickshaw drivers also came.
The drivers led several rickshaws and took up positions next
to the Shaheed Minar. They sat in their rickshaws and chanted various slogans.
Their slogans included "The movement cannot be stopped by gunfire",
"I have donated blood, I will donate more", and "A flood of blood
will wash away injustice". The couple's three daughters, who study in
college, from Mirpur No. 10 to Shaheed Minar. After dropping off the girls for
the slogan rally, they rested at Dhaka University Medical Centre. They say
their anger never stops. If they see students being shot, they cannot stay at
home. Before coming to Shaheed Minar, they also took part in protests in
Mirpur-10 area.
The entire procession converged at Shaheed Minar.
Around noon yesterday, the agitators started their protest
at Science Lab intersection. Around 3 pm, several thousand people came in a
procession to the Shaheed Minar area. 4,444 musicians from a band gathered at
Rabindra Sarovar in Dhanmondi at 3 pm to protest against the violence, mass
arrests and harassment that have accompanied the students' anti-discrimination
protests. From there, the musicians proceeded to Shaheed Minar to show
solidarity with the students.
People from different classes and walks of life, as well as
leaders and workers from political parties, also joined the Shaheed Minar. Some
of them held banners reading "Freedom Fighters of '71". There was no
central microphone system at the Shaheed Minar. So the protesters, coming from
different parts of Dhaka, started chanting their own slogans. All the slogans
use the same language.

students protested in different parts of the capital Dhaka. In the morning,
students gathered in Uttara. They could not access the main road due to
obstruction by police, ruling party leaders and workers. The demonstrators left
after some time. Students also protested at Jatrabari in Shantinagar Mall. Even
after these protests, many people took part in the procession at Shaheed Minar.
Protests also took place in Mirpur DOHS area. People from different classes and
walks of life protested at Sahabuddin Park in Gulshan.
Students protested at Mirpur Roundabout No. 10 for three
hours from 2 pm. Parents were also present. A large number of police personnel
were stationed at Roundabout No. 10 at this time. As students continued to come
in groups, the police moved out from there and took up position outside the
Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur 2. The shops at the roundabout
were closed at that time.
Traffic was stopped from Mirpur 10 to Pallavi, Agargaon,
Mirpur 1 and 14 during the protest. Around 5 pm, the students had completed
their programme and left the area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the protesters began gathering
outside East-West University shortly after 10:30 am. At around 11 am, they
blocked one side of the road in front of the university to protest.
Shortly after 12:30 pm, students from different educational
institutions in Rampura, Banshri and Badda areas, as well as members of the
public, gathered in a small procession in front of East-West University. The scholars were carrying their institution's ID
cards around their necks. A heavy police presence was present at the Aftabnagar
Gate from the morning. still, the police left after noon. Around 130 pm, the protesters marched up to
Pragati Sarni main road. latterly, Merul
Bada held a procession in front of BRAC University. They protested there for
about 30 twinkles. There, the scholars cornered Awami League leaders and
workers, where they took up positions on Banashri Road. They blocked the
Rampura- Banashri road in kick till 6
pm. I get a little agitated when I see
the police There was no law enforcement
presence anywhere around Shaheed Minar. still, police were posted outside Shahbag Police Station. When

bottles at police officers. In this situation, some protesters formed a mortal
guard in front of Shahbag Police Station to help attacks on police. before, a

thousands of protesters was held from the Science Institute area of the capital
to Shaheed Minar in the center. As the procession through Nilkhet reached the
Vice Chancellor's House of Dhaka University, some of the procession cried at police officers standing in front of
the Vice Chancellor's House. Some of the protesters also formed
mortal securities and helped the
police to withdraw. During the kick at Science Lab Junction, police
officers deposited themselves on the
road in front of Baitul Mamoul Jame Masjid Market on Mirpur Road. Shortly after
1230 pm, some of the protesters went to the police with water and eyefuls, which were accepted by numerous police officers. demurrers calling for share reforms began on university
premises on June 5. On July 15, BCL zealots attacked scholars at Dhaka University, after which
clashes spread across the country. Six people were killed in clashes on July
16. The movement also gained instigation. further deaths followed. The
death risk from the clashes and clashes has now risen to 218, and law enforcers
have since launched arrest operations by storming road blocks.
" CompleteNon-cooperation"
Asif Mahmood, one of the fellow
of the scholars'anti-discrimination
movement, read out some instructions on" completenon-cooperation" at
the central rally at Shaheed Minar. He said that under thenon-cooperation
program, hospitals, apothecaries, exigency
transport services( transportation of
drugs and medical outfit),
ambulance services, fire services, mass media, transportation of diurnal
musts, exigency internet
services, exigency relief support and
transport services will be handed. For officers and
workers of the department, it'll continue in the future.
The orders include non-payment of taxes and fees; arrears on
all bills including electricity, gas and water; closure of public and private
establishments, offices and factories; deduction of salaries at the end of the
month if people do not report to work; indefinite closure of educational
institutions. The directive also seeks to not allow foreigners to remit funds
into the country through banking routes. The directive also prescribes
suspension of public transport. Banks are allowed to open only on Sundays for
urgent personal transactions. Police personnel have been asked not to perform
any other than their routine duties. Apart from this, the directive stated that
the armed forces, except for the BGB and the Navy, will not undertake any
duties outside the cantonments. The order also closed luxury shops, showrooms,
commercial establishments, hotels, motels and restaurants indefinitely.
Students' Anti-Discrimination Movement Coordinator Asif Mahmood said in the
directive that shops selling everyday items will remain open between 11 am and
1 am.
